About Us

The North Hero Historic House Tour invites visitors to step inside the stories of the Champlain Islands.

For one afternoon, historic homes, camps, a chapel and landmark buildings open their doors to the public - some for the first time in generations. Through architecture, landscapes, photographs and personal stories, the tour explores how island life evolved from frontier farms and lake commerce to summer retreats and close-knit communities.

This event is created in partnership with homeowners, historians, volunteers, and local organizations who believe history should be experienced, not just remembered.

More than a house tour, this is a celebration of place, the people who built here, the families who stayed, and the character of the Islands that still endures today.

Our Mission

To bring the history of the Champlain Islands to life through architecture, storytelling, and shared community experiences.
Through tours and public programs we aim to connect people across generations with our historic places:

  • Open historic spaces to the community

  • Preserve and share island stories

  • Celebrate the architectural and cultural character of the Champlain Islands

  • Inspire stewardship of local history

  • Support community initiatives that strengthen island life today.

This Year’s Beneficiary

Each year proceeds from the tour will support an important community cause in the Champlain Islands.
For 2026, the beneficiary is the North Hero Volunteer Fire Department and the new fire house.
