Vermont versus Hollywood: Views of Vermont as Depicted by Hollywood July 30th, 2026 6:30pm

North Hero Community Hall

We traditionally hold our annual membership meeting at a venue of historic significance and this year the women of Birdland have graciously agreed to host. Some of you remember the Birdland Diner and while we normally serve hors'doeuvres, this year we are planning a meal inspired by diner menus of bygone years! Please note that this event is for Society Members.

Ron Fierstein of North Hero and Manhattan has accumulated a truly outstanding collection of historic postcards of the islands featuring outstanding vistas of how our community looked in days gone by. Ron is a lively presenter and his collection is notable -- many of you might remember a previous presentation he gave which got rave reviews and is still fondly remembered. He will include some of the buildings to be included in the upcoming historic house tour.

Amanda Gustin of the Vermont HIstorical Society and in conjunction with the Vermont Council on the Humanities, she will present a look into how Vermont has been portrayed in cinema. She incorporates clips from many films, including "Way Down East" (1929), "Dark Victory" (1939), "White Christmas (1950), Alfred Hitchcock's "The Trouble with Harry" (1955), and Thanks for Smoking (2005).
